11. Flavor with Magical Herbs
While there are no Doritos-flavored stir-fries here, that doesn’t mean all your meals have to taste like desk calendars. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Flavor is so important to having dietary success that herbs are one of the major food groups of this diet. By experimenting with various herbs and spices, you’ll likely find some combinations that taste decadent but aren’t nutritionally destructive. While some spices do appear to have some weight-loss benefit, we’re not saying that a spoonful of spice is the secret to weight loss. Instead, adding these ingredients to your meals ensures they’re as satisfying to your tongue as they are to your appetite. So find the spices and herbs and tastes that do it for you, and you’ll be more likely to stick on the right path to a better body.
Some spices with extraordinary health benefits deserve their own special place of honor. For example, cinnamon contains antioxidant properties and aids in digestion. Chili powder helps fight inflammation and aids in cardiovascular health, while possibly helping to stimulate your metabolism. Cumin contains antioxidant properties, iron, and helps aid in digestion. And herbs like basil, mint, parsley, and rosemary contain a variety of vitamins and minerals.
